June is upon us and can the year be almost half over? Where does the time go!

Join me in giving a big THANK YOU to Larry Durbin for two years of his time as our President. Great job, Larry!! Don’t be surprised when you are invited to “do it again”.

Our new officers take over on June 1st. Phyllis Picardi and Jim Kronlokken are serving as co-presidents. This is a new concept for Saguaro and with talent like this, it is bound to be another success.  Let’s give them all the help they ask for.

UP-DATE on our most esteemed past president:

As most of you know, the doctors have found an aneurism in or near Larry’s heart. He will be having surgery on Monday, June 9th, to correct it. The good word is that it won’t be “open heart” surgery. They will make two small incisions in his leg and insert a stent up into the aneurism. He will be in isolation for 24 hours. No word yet how long he will be in the hospital. So cards and e-mails will be welcome. More on Larry after his surgery. We wish him the best. Our prayers and thoughts go with him.

THE DAY THE SUSPENSE ENDS:

June 26th will be our big year end competition. Who will be the winners –who will be TOPS? Be there!  I have not given scores so that it will be a surprise to all.

ORCHIDS TO:

We had, at one time, a column titled: Orchids to:

This is a thank you to the unsung workers who never seem to get mentioned. I want to resurrect that column and urge everyone to make mention of anyone who they think deserves a little “thank you.”

Just e-mail your suggestions to me.

I will be the first with: A big Thank You to:

            ROBERTA DURBIN.

Roberta is at the beck and call of each of us to run errands. New  things needed at a moments notice or things forgotten. For years I have seen her rushing out to retrieve an item that is needed immediately and I have never heard her complain. Orchids to you, Roberta!!

SUMMER

We will have only one meeting per month for July and August. On July 10th each of us may bring images that we would like a little help on or just to get an opinion on what that particular image needed. If anyone has a short “program” on a trip or subject they would like to share, please bring it. This is the month when most anything goes.

August 14th is “Women vs Men”. Bring (or leave with the president if you will not be here) two nature and two open images. No titles or makers name is given and these images may be used during any of the monthly competitions. This is just a “fun” thing we do each August.

COMPETITION:

The monthly competitions will start in September (Photo-travel) so while you are busy photographing this summer keep all the subjects in mind. Following is the list for the coming year. Saguaro has absolutely the BEST photographers so the competition is fierce. Get out there and do it!

INTERCLUB:

Photo-travel: Saguaro ended up in 1st place for the 2007-2008 year. Jean Romain will be doing the P-T next year so, please give her any images she asks for---or just give her your best ones (digital) by way of e-mail or a disk. That way she will have what she needs when she needs them. We are allowed to send six images, preferably one per person, but two at the most, per person. With all the great photographers Saguaro has, we should keep on being at the top.  I thank everyone who gave me images these years that I was chairman. Shirley

The CPID Interclub competitions are over for the year. Saguaro CC ended the year in fourth place in the B Division. Saguaro had two images in the Best of Year Competition that will be judged later in June. They are titled “Stealing Food” by Phyllis Picardi and “Bald Eagle Arrival” by Lynn Thompson. The next CPID Interclub Competition will be in October. I thank everyone for participating.                        Lynn

Phyllis said that there is no year end for P-J until sometime in June. The scoring was very low. 12 Points was the highest.

Just a note of interest: As we were coming back from Flagstaff we noticed that the Saguaros are in full bloom, also the Russian thistles and the Yucca.  These are all white blooms but with the proper composition can make a very beautiful image.

Classified Ads?

If there is a need for a “classified” column, we can put one in each month, or whenever the need comes up. It will be only for photography items! To sell or give away.

It looks like that is it for this month. Remember, this is your paper. Send anything you would like to include in it at any time. Tips on photography, new ideas, a new place to photograph, we even take complaints! (Even if we don’t like it, we take it!)
